Who was Eddie Money, Jesse’s father?
Edward Joseph Mahoney was born in Brooklyn, New York City USA, on 21 March 1949 – his zodiac sign was Aries and he was holding American nationality. He was a professional singer best known for his songs “Baby Hold On”, “Two Tickets to Paradise”, and “I Wanna Go Back”.
Eddie was born to Irish Catholic parents – Daniel Patrick who was a police offer, and Dorothy Elizabeth who was a housewife.
He spent his early life on Long Island, and started singing in the streets once he turned 11 – he attended a couple of high schools, and was kicked out of one after he forged a report card. He was part of several rock bands, mostly because it helped him date cheerleaders, and eventually matriculated from Island Trees High School. Following in his father and grandfather’s footsteps, he joined the New York City Police Department, but quit in 1968 and launched his career as a musician – as he stated in an interview – ‘I couldn’t see myself in a police uniform for 20 years of my life, with short hair’.
In the same year, he moved to Berkeley in California where he started using Eddie Money as his professional name, and worked several odd jobs to support himself, such as selling bell-bottomed trousers.
He began performing in clubs around the San Francisco Bay Area, signed a contract with Columbia Records, and released his first album in 1977 – he sang before Santana at Boston Music Hall in 1978, and in the upcoming years appeared in several TV shows, such as “The Midnight Special” and “Solid Gold”.
In 1983, he released the “Where’s the Party?” album which was rather unsuccessful, but his 1986 album “Can’t Hold Back” became a success and was certified platinum. His “Nothing to Lose” album was released in 1988, featuring the hits “Walk on Water” and “The Love in Your Eyes”. In 2008, he was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.
Eddie was a bit of an actor too, as he played a tiny role in the “Wonderland” documentary movie in 1997, appeared in a single episode of “The Drew Carey Show” in 1999, and in May 2002 in an episode of “The King of Queens” TV series.
He started hosting “Money in the Morning” TV show in October 2011, and in 2018 had a small role in “The Kominsky Method” TV series.
He married 11-years-younger Margo Lee Walker in 1984, but the marriage was short-lived, and he went on to marry Jesse’s mother Laurie Harris in 1989. They renewed their wedding vows just three months before Eddie died, on 13 September 2019 in a Los Angeles hospital, due to complications with cancer.
